Great Read Alouds for the First Few Days of School

As we know, we should be reading aloud everyday to our students. Some of our students are worried and scared about their first day, especially if this is a new school. Here are a few of my favorite books to begin the year:

The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

This book is a great story about a baby racoon leaving their mother for the first day of school.

First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg

This story will make your students laugh. It is about a person being scared to go to the first day of school. You infer that person is a student, but in the end, it is the teacher! It is something we are can relate to, and students will think it is silly.

Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes

Wemberly worries about everything, especially his first day of school. Will he make any friends?

Does anyone have any other favorite books they use at the beginnng of the year?
